One person can make a difference!
NOTE: AS OF 5/16/14 WE ARE CHANGING OUR VOLUNTEER SOFTWARE AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS ONLINE UNTIL THE SWITCH IS COMPLETE. PLEASE EMAIL US AT VOLUNTEER@ADOPTASENIORPET.COM TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.
Because we are a volunteer-based organization, we have many opportunities inside the organization where you can donate your time. Our volunteers keep our rescue running smoothly and keep our costs to a minimum. If you have some time on your hands and you love to help out a good cause, take a look to see if any of these opportunities intrigue you.
Some of our Volunteer Opportunities Include:
*General Volunteers – we need volunteers to help us run special events, fundraisers, adoption events and more! No special training needed, you just need to have a love of animals, and be willing to roll up your sleeves, dig in and help out at events to help us continue to help mature pets! Volunteer opportunities are emailed to our volunteer database- simply respond to those events/activities you would like to help out at, and ignore the ones you don’t. Though we hold volunteer orientation meetings throughout the year, you can start volunteering right away! We hold “on the spot” training for most events, and our cat centers require a one-hour training appointment before you get started there! We value your time, and appreciate that you choose to use your free time to help homeless senior pets!
*Event & Fundraiser Committees – hard-working and outgoing volunteers who love animals are needed to help organize, set-up, and run our events and fundraisers. Responsibilities include working with a handful of other volunteers committed to the same projects. Must be able to work well with a team, be willing to talk to the public, and be willing to meet occasional deadlines. Creative and fun-loving people who do well with the public would do best on this team. This is an opportunity to have fun while working on the core events that help this little rescue provide the best care for our animals!
*Adoption Center Volunteers – We have two small cat adoption centers located in the NW Suburbs of Chicago. One is at Best Friends Pet Care in Prairie View, and the other is within Petco in Lake Zurich. We are in need of volunteers to help clean the litter boxes, the floors, the windows, the cages, and play and socialize with the cats. Ideally, we are looking for people who can go once a week on a fairly regular basis, but are open to all schedules. Each adoption center holds 6 cats at a time, and both need very regular cleaning to look its best and to keep the environment as healthy as possible for our cats. Grooming of the cats, including cleaning ears and clipping nails and overall health checks, is another opportunity for those with ample cat-knowledge. *Best Friends Prairie View is in Need of Volunteers!!* Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can commit to 1-2 hours a week to help our homeless senior cats! Jr. Volunteers age 13 and older are welcome at this center with a parent!
*Odd Jobs – We are always in need of help in small ways. Maybe a local pet store that has collected food for our pet food pantry needs the food picked up. Maybe we need posters put up for an upcoming event. Maybe we need envelopes stuffed for an upcoming mailing. Sometimes the odd jobs are the ones we need the most help with! These jobs are emailed to our volunteers via our Volunteer Hub, and our volunteers sign up for what they’d like to help with. It’s that easy!
*Animal Transport – volunteers needed to help us save the lives of animals scheduled for euthanasia by providing transport to the vet, boarding facilities, and foster homes from either the pound itself or by meeting up with other transporters from the facilities. You must have reliable car, cell phone, and patience with scared animals. You can write-off $.14 per mile on your taxes for transportation directly related to the rescue of our animals! Transports happen every day of the week. Transports are usually no further East than Chicago, no further South than Joliet, no further North than Antioch, and no further West than Marengo.
Volunteers help coordinate events like our annual Canine Cruise.
Jr. Volunteers between the ages of 6 and 16 are welcome with an active parent – parent AND child must sign up in the volunteer system. Volunteers 16 and older may volunteer independently, though there are age restrictions for certain volunteer opportunities.
COMMUNITY SERVICE: For liability reasons, we cannot accept court-appointed community service hour volunteers. We can only accept church and educational community service hours at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.
We are currently changing our volunteer software and are not accepting online applications at this time. Please email email@example.com to let us know you’d like to help out. (5/16/14)
