Adopt a Cat
Cat Adoption Policy
Adoptable cats are available for general viewing at both Best Friends Pet Care and Petco Lake Zurich during their normal business hours. Each cat’s location is stated at the end of their description. “Go Home” adoption appointments are made only on application approval. Please note that Best Friends Pet Care & Petco are not responsible for processing adoptions, and an appointment MUST be made with a Young at Heart adoption counselor once your application is approved.
To adopt from Young at Heart Pet Rescue, you must:
- Be 21 years of age.
- Have landlord’s permission to have a pet (we will check!)
- Have taken good care of any current or previous pets and have taken them in regularly for check-ups (we’ll speak with your vet!)
- Have an ID with current address.
- Have an adoption application approved by a Young at Heart staff member.
- If you are out of state, you must have had pets prior to adopting from Young at Heart and have a veterinary reference. Some breeds of dogs will be restricted to in-state adoptions only.
Because we strive to make both our adoptable pets AND our adopting families as happy as possible, you may not always be able to adopt the pet you have fallen in love with online. Though it is easy to fall in love with a picture, in real life, you may not be a good match for each other. But don’t worry! We will help you find a dog or cat that matches what you are looking for so that you and your new furry companion can have a happily ever after!
Adoption fee for cats: $75
Adoption fee is waived for a second cat if you adopt a pair!
Your companion will already be spayed or neutered, tested negative for FIV & Feline Leukemia, given all veterinarian recommended vaccines including a 1 year Rabies Vaccine, a 24PetWatch microchip, a senior wellness chemistry panel, and 30 days of free ShelterCare pet insurance. Many of our adoptable companions also receive dental procedure, and any other procedure necessary to get your feline companion ready for adoption! Any known medical or behavioral conditions are listed.
All of our adoptable companions come with a 14-day Money Back Guarantee.

Blue
Hey there! I’m 10-year-old “Blue”. I bet you noticed my beautiful baby blues eyes in the photos! If I do say so myself, I’m a very photogenic girl. I’m new to the shelter, so the volunteers are still getting to know me and I’m getting to know the other cats at the center but I am certainly full of personality and enjoy having you scratch my head, cheeks and chin, of course. I’m great with the litter box, enjoy having a few treats and and I love my moist food. But don’t worry, I’m keeping my girlie figure by working out. I am an active girl and love to play! String toys, toy mice and crinkle balls are some my favorite things to play with. Are you looking for a charming and very playful cat? Well, here I am! Hi there, I’m Bob and I am quite possibly the sweetest kitty that ever was. I am FULL of purrs and just want to cuddle and be cuddled. I am an 8-year-old neutered male who was rescued by Young at Heart from a local shelter after my family left me there because of their allergies. I am a laid-back and quiet guy who has stolen the hearts of everyone who meets me, I am a volunteer favorite. I am doing well at the Cat Center, I enjoy hanging out with the other kitties, I am good with my litterbox and as mentioned before, I am beyond sweet. Even though I have adapted well to my new life at the center, what I want most of all is a family to call my own. Won’t you come meet me? I’ll be here purring while I wait for you to stop by. Butters
Hello! I’m Butters and it’s pretty obvious how I earned my name….. I’m am so sweet and charming that I will have you melting just like butter when you come to meet me. I am a handsome 10-year-old cat and I am such a good boy. When Young at Heart rescued me I had been left at a shelter by my family of 10 years and I was so skinny but now the volunteers feed me often and give me LOTS of love and I’m starting to look like the handsome Prince Charming I should be. All the volunteers at the cat center say I’m very sweet, I love to cuddle up against you and have you scratch me all over. You see, I am a 4-paw declaw and since I can’t scratch myself, I appreciate all the help I can get.

Hi, I’m Grace and I’m so excited to tell you what a great kitty I am. I am absolutely adorable, super friendly and I’m 11yrs young. Did I tell you I love to talk and will greet you at your front door when you come home to tell you all about my day? Did I also mention that I love to play, play, play? Well, string toys are my favorite things to jump for, along with catnip toys, crinkle balls and anything else I can find to play with – I am just such a happy girl. And, when it’s quiet time, I would love to sit with you and snuggle. I am a volunteer favorite at the cat center and all comment on what a fun kitty I am. Can you believe my previous people gave me up because they thought I was too much work? Hey there, it’s me, Isabel. And, just like my beautiful name, I’m a beautiful and petite 10- year-old Tortie. I’m a new kitty to Young at Heart and after being rescued from a loud and stressful shelter, I’m a little weary of all the recent changes in my life. I am a sweet girl who loves the TLC the volunteers give me but I’m just a little shy and still learning how to relax in my new surroundings. I’m a smart girl and quickly starting to understand that everything is looking up for me now and with each day that passes by, I’m really starting to blossom. Mia
Hi, I’m Mia! I’m an adorable and sweet little 10 year old butterball who loves to be loved! I love being the Princess and I have aptly been dubbed Princess Mia in my foster home. I’m an easy kitty to fall in love with and everyone adores me – I love to hang out in whatever room you’re in and I have the BEST purr, if I do say so myself (you can hear it from across the room). I love to be brushed and my favorite thing is to be brushed while I’m sunbathing – I haven’t met a sunbeam I don’t like! I love to sleep with you at night and when I’m all comfy and snuggled in, I will demand some belly rubs – I will bump your hand until you give in!! I LOVE food (hence my svelt figure) and can be a little demanding when I’m hungry. You wouldn’t want me to waste away, now would you? My foster parents are working hard to trim down my big but beautiful physique. When it’s meal time, I make the cutest run/waddle to the food bowl- my foster mom says it is very endearing. I’m not all that interested in playing, I’m more content to be your pal and be loved on. I would do best in a home either by myself or one other quiet cat like me, as my main goal in life is to collect as much love from my humans as possible! Some come meet me! Sedona
Hi, I’m Sedona. Before I came to Young at Heart, I found myself lost and alone at a local open admission shelter after my family left me there because they could no longer care for me. Thankfully, Young at Heart came to my rescue and got me out of there just hours before I was scheduled to be euthanized. Everyone at YAH is so glad I’m here because I’m the sweetest 10yr. old kitty and I still have so much love to give. My volunteer friends affectionately call me “The Greeter”, as I am the first to meet them at the door with purrs, meows and tons of love to give. I love, love, love to be picked up and given TLC, I’m a big cuddle bug. And, boy, do I love to play – I will play with all the fun toys they have at the cat center! I’m a petite girl packed with lots of love and fun! I’m good with the litter box and do pretty well with the other cats in the center. Please stop be the cat center to meet me and if you can’t find me, check the top of the cat tree, I’ll be basking in the sun. I am so happy for my second chance at a happily ever after and I’d love for you to see what a wonderful kitty I am. Won’t you consider being my forever family?
