Adoptable cats are available for general viewing at both Best Friends Pet Care and Petco Lake Zurich during their normal business hours. Each cat’s location is stated at the end of their description. “Go Home” adoption appointments are made only on application approval. Please note that Best Friends Pet Care & Petco are not responsible for processing adoptions, and an appointment MUST be made with a Young at Heart adoption counselor once your application is approved.
To adopt from Young at Heart Pet Rescue, you must:
- Be 21 years of age.
- Have landlord’s permission to have a pet (we will check!)
- Have taken good care of any current or previous pets and have taken them in regularly for check-ups (we’ll speak with your vet!)
- Have an ID with current address.
- Have an adoption application approved by a Young at Heart staff member.
- If you are out of state, you must have had pets prior to adopting from Young at Heart and have a veterinary reference. Some breeds of dogs will be restricted to in-state adoptions only.
Because we strive to make both our adoptable pets AND our adopting families as happy as possible, you may not always be able to adopt the pet you have fallen in love with online. Though it is easy to fall in love with a picture, in real life, you may not be a good match for each other. But don’t worry! We will help you find a dog or cat that matches what you are looking for so that you and your new furry companion can have a happily ever after!
Adoption fee for cats: $55
Adoption fee is waived for a second cat if you adopt a pair!
Your companion will already be spayed or neutered, tested negative for FIV & Feline Leukemia, given all veterinarian recommended vaccines including a 1 year Rabies Vaccine, a 24PetWatch microchip, a senior wellness chemistry panel, and 30 days of free ShelterCare pet insurance. Many of our adoptable companions also receive dental procedure, and any other procedure necessary to get your feline companion ready for adoption! Any known medical or behavioral conditions are listed.

Howdy! I’m Allie, and I am a soft-as-suede little girl who is oh-so-sweet! I’m about 7 years old, and just as snuggly as can be. I love to stretch out on your tummy while we snuggle and rest my paw on your face if I can reach. I’m a great lap cat, and with my super soft coat, you will just want to keep on petting me. I love my kitty beds, and enjoy time to myself as well, but time spent with you is what I love best! I’m adjusting to the kitties in the kitty center, and do ok with the quiet, non-confrontational ones. I love to rub up against your legs and curl up in your lap to keep you warm. Hi there! I’m Calliope, and when you watch me walk gracefully across the floor, you’ll know why I’m named after the goddess of poetry! Slinky and graceful, my beautiful markings and ballerina-like motion will capture your heart. I’m a very sweet girl, and none of those rumors about calicos having attitude can be applied to me! I am very quiet and affectionate, and enjoy my other feline pals just fine. I love heated cat beds, fleece blankets, and snuggle time – and if I can make a request, I really do prefer canned cat food. Treats whenever I ask for them are always appreciated, though I am very lady-like and don’t demand them too often. The rescue doesn’t know much about my past, but they know I have a very bright future! I was rescued from a pound in central Illinois, and was taken into Young at Heart Pet Rescue’s adoption program. Hi there! I’m Fantasia, a totally awesome 10 year old brown tabby cat who is a very lucky girl! You see, I was part of Young at Heart’s Super Senior Save, and I was saved just in the nick of time! I was very ill, and I spent a month hospitalized while the rescue’s vet helped me recover. And as soon as I started feeling better, I started purring for everyone, and rubbing up on everyone, and I became the vet clinic’s favorite patient! I finally got the green light from the doc – I was finally healthy and ready to be put up for adoption!! So off to the adoption center I went, and I was SO happy to stretch my legs and hang out with the other kitties! But my favorite part of every day is visiting with all the people! I love people! Young ones, old ones, short ones, tall ones- I’m always happy to purr for you! I’m a great girl, and will make a great addition to any home! I’m good with my litter box, good with other kitties, and don’t seem to mind the dogs who visit me at the door to the center. Hi, I’m Mia! I’m an adorable and sweet little 10 year old butterball who loves to be loved! I love being the Princess and I have aptly been dubbed Princess Mia in my foster home. I’m an easy kitty to fall in love with and everyone adores me – I love to hang out in whatever room you’re in and I have the BEST purr, if I do say so myself (you can hear it from across the room). I love to be brushed and my favorite thing is to be brushed while I’m sunbathing – I haven’t met a sunbeam I don’t like! I love to sleep with you at night and when I’m all comfy and snuggled in, I will demand some belly rubs – I will bump your hand until you give in!! I LOVE food (hence my svelt figure) and can be a little demanding when I’m hungry. You wouldn’t want me to waste away, now would you? My foster parents are working hard to trim down my big but beautiful physique. When it’s meal time, I make the cutest run/waddle to the food bowl- my foster mom says it is very endearing. I’m not all that interested in playing, I’m more content to be your pal and be loved on. I would do best in a home either by myself or one other quiet cat like me, as my main goal in life is to collect as much love from my humans as possible! Some come meet me! A good Samaritan brought me into their garage until animal control could get me. Even then, no one came to get me. I journeyed to Young at Heart, and I am now warm and comfortable and getting used to my new friends. I love to be held and brushed and loved on, though I am a little bit nervous with the other kitties around. I’d be a great companion for a quiet person or couple who loves a quiet buddy. I’d be good as an only kitty or with one other calm and quiet kitty around. I am great with my litterbox and am healthy, and am a 4-paw declaw. Hey there! Didya come to pet me? Didya? Please, please! Because I would really and truly, pretty pretty please, love for you to pet me. I’m Puff Daddy, but my friends call me Puff, and I LOOOOOOVE to be the greeter to all my new friends! I was #6 out of 13 lucky senior pets rescued during Young at Heart’s Super Senior Save! I am a 7 year old white and orange domestic long hair, and boy am I a funny guy! I am pretty sure I’m “all that”, and am cool, confident, and sometimes… well, sometimes I’m a bit too full of myself and let the kitten in me sneak out! I can get a little wild and rowdy, which makes my friends at the rescue laugh, and then I go back to being Puff Daddy, the cool cat. I’m a great guy who would be better as an only cat, but I don’t mind dogs, and I am good with my litterbox. I’m healthy and quite the entertainer, though my rowdy side would make me a better match for adults than kids. When you think of pets, do you think of family? Do you think “forever”? Then you are the family for me! I’m Mokey, a beautiful and friendly 12-year old Chartreux cat. My beautiful thick smokey grey coat and my gold eyes are enough to make you stop to pet me. But when you hear that my owner “traveled too much” to keep a low-key cat like me, you’ll know why I’m looking for a homebody to love me from here on out and I hope you’ll want to take me home! When my owner put me in my cat carrier, I thought it was just a trip to the vet’s office. I didn’t understand why suddenly I was in a cold, stainless steel cage in a noisy pound, facing a certain end. All I did was ask for a bowl of food and water, a little love, and a place to sleep! I’m a really good girl, I never caused any trouble or made anyone sneeze – but I ended up on death row anyway. Thankfully, Young at Heart stepped in and saved me, and I’ve been a happy girl ever since.
I love spending my days lounging in cat beds, climbing the cat tree, and hanging out with my feline pal. I’m a chubby girl, since I really enjoy a good gourmet kitty meal, but it just makes me all the more loveable. I enjoy being petted and loved on, and even enjoy being brushed. I really like meeting new people, and I’d probably do just fine with a cat-friendly pooch, too. I am hoping for a loving family that doesn’t travel much, and can’t wait to go home! I’m just a laid back girl who has fabulous litter box manners and a loving temperament. I’m also spayed and up to date on my vaccinations, and microchipped.
