ANIMAL INTAKE FROM ANIMAL CONTROLS & OPEN-DOOR SHELTERS:
Young at Heart Pet Rescue does not accept pets from the public, as 100% of our rescued pets come from open-admission shelters where they are unnecessarily euthanized due to their age. If you are an open-admission shelter, pound, or animal control, please email intake@yahpetrescue.com with the pet’s location, information, photo and timeline for rescue. We do not transfer from “no kill” shelters or other rescue organizations. We are a very small organization, therefore we only rescue animals from within Illinois, and we will not be able to help them all. We will contact you if we have space at the time of your inquiry.
ANIMAL SURRENDER: Young at Heart Pet Rescue does not accept pets from the public, as 100% of our rescued pets come from open-admission shelters where they are unnecessarily euthanized due to their age. We work directly with animal shelters and animal controls all across Illinois. We receive hundreds of requests for help per month, and though we wish we could, we cannot feasibly help every senior pet in need because the shelter system is overwhelmed with owner surrenders, strays, and unwanted litters of pets. Senior pets or ill pets are the first to be euthanized for space, and take the longest to find new homes for. Young at Heart is dedicated to rescuing those senior pets who have no one on their side, and no hope of a second chance without our help. If you are a private party who needs to rehome a senior pet, we will courtesy list your pet on our website free for 60 days. Please email webmaster@yahpetrescue.com with a jpeg photo, animal info, and your contact info. Young at Heart is not responsible for any courtesy listed pets in any way.
