Sweet Galena
Sweet Galena came to Young at Heart in 2006 when a local animal welfare agency was forced to close its doors. The oldest of the cats at the time, no other group was willing to take this petite little fireball. Young at Heart took her in and tried for months to find her a forever home.
As Galena got comfortable in her foster home, it became apparent she had some issues. Initially treated for Ringworm, her treatments progressed, but her skin condition did not improve. No medication, no food, no supplement, no medicated bath seemed to help. Finally, we had a diagnosis- Galena had an autoimmune skin disease. This meant a lifetime of different management techniques, none of which were easy with a cat like Galena.
Galena is a hilarious, joyful cat- once she gets settled into her environment. But try to give her a pill or a shot, and you would never guess this feisty girl is now somewhere near 18 years old! She has claws, and she knows how to use them! But when she’s not being medicated, she’s still as playful as a kitten. She enjoys the company of other cats, and her favorite game is still “catch the fingers”. Of course, catnip and fuzzy mice are great fun, too! This beautiful, spunky girl will have a forever home with Young at Heart, thanks to her wonderful Sanctuary Family!
